Arsene Wenger has hit back at Thierry Henry for saying Arsenal need four more players to contend for the Premier League next season and querying Olivier Giroud's suitability to fire them to the title.
Wenger believes that the Arsenal icon was pushed to make a controversial assessment of his former side after Chelsea stifled the Gunners in a 0-0 draw at The Emirates on April 26.
'I think he's wrong. He's paid for that,' Wenger said. 'We know all the system now of the modern media, especially on TV. I know how it works. They push you to be controversial because they give you a lot of money.'
Wenger was particularly frustrated by Henry's thoughts on Giroud and referred to a time where people questioned the Frenchman's ability in front of goal.
'I can accept an opinion but the comment on Giroud was a bit more wrong, especially because I heard the same thing being said about Nicolas Anelka, about Thierry Henry himself and about Robin van Persie - and they all became world-class players themselves,' Wenger explained.
Henry praised the contribution of Giroud this season but questioned whether the 28-year-old has the capability to raise his game further to lead Arsenal higher up the table.
