Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has endorsed his club’s interest in former Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.
City have a definite interest in De Bruyne and have already made tentative enquiries to establish whether he would be open to a return to the Barclays Premier League from German club Wolfsburg.
And it has emerged that his Belgium team-mate Kompany has given the 23-year-old a ringing endorsement to City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
It is understood that Kompany has told Pellegrini and City sporting director Txiki Begiristain that not only is De Bruyne talented enough to play for the club but also has the right attitude and personality.
Pellegrini is not expected to move in January but the midfielder is on a provisional list of ‘possibles’ for next summer.
De Bruyne was a team-mate of current City midfielder Frank Lampard after signing for Chelsea from Genk in his native Belgium in 2012 but never really made an impact at Stamford Bridge, spending time out on loan before moving to Wolfsburg for £18m last January.
