Disgruntled Sunderland fans tried to storm the home dugout in protest as Gus Poyet's side were smashed 4-0 at against Aston Villa.
The fans are revolting already, several of them apparently intent on launching physical attacks on Poyet at the point their side fell 3-0 down in the first half. They were escorted from the dugout but other dangers remain.
But thousands of other home fans streamed for the exits after Christian Benteke kick-started the spectacular goal rush that ended Aston Villa’s scoring drought away from home to plunge shambolic Sunderland into yet another crisis.
The fans are revolting already, several of them apparently intent on launching physical attacks on Poyet at the point their side fell 3-0 down in the first half.
Police were called and an officer stayed close to Poyet for the remainder of the first half.
Sunderland now have one league win in 12 games and Villa now have two in two, and three wins on the bounce in all competitions.
