Manchester United defender Phil Jones is set to end uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford by signing a new contract this week.
Jones is understood to have agreed similar terms to his United and England teammate Chris Smalling worth in the region of £80,000 a week.
The 23-year-old, who joined United from Blackburn for £16million in 2011, would have been out of contract at the end of next season and concerns were growing about his future at the club with manager Louis van Gaal determined to sign a new centre-back this summer.
However, Jones can also operate as a right-back or in midfield, and United were keen to tie the England international to a new deal.
It comes after Smalling said earlier in June that he and Jones have proved they deserve to be the long-term centre half partnership for United.
