Fabian Delph’s move to Manchester City is sensationally back on. The Aston Villa captain is understood to have performed a second U-turn and is in discussions over a move to the Etihad in an £8million deal after all.
Delph, the club captain, originally committed to the switch last Friday and had a medical booked. But he changed his mind overnight and did not attend, agreeing to stay at Villa instead.
He issued a statement on Saturday, which read: 'I'm aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight.
'I'm not leaving. I'm staying at the football club and I can't wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club.'
However, he appears to have altered his stance again and sources in Manchester are confident a transfer will go ahead.
Delph leaving would be a hammer blow to Villa, still coming to terms with Liverpool triggering Christian Benteke’s £32.5million release clause.
Losing both players would hugely affect Tim Sherwood’s plans and increase the urgency for new recruits.
